Interesting Activities in Quarantine
I am a serial homebody, but I am seriously going crazy for weeks because of the Covid-19 situation. In my hometown, people are not allowed to go outside without a permit, military people are doing checkpoints and allowed to question your "outside activities", and every leisure place is now closed. I understand that we are all forced to stay indoors to protect each other, but being indoors literally all the time is something relatively new not just for me, but for everyone.
The positive thing is that In the course of 3 weeks I was able to have time doing the things that I have been putting off for a while. Thus, here are some of the interesting activities I did while in quarantine:
1. Learn a new language - Ich spreche in Deutsche!
I was lucky enough to visit Germany last year and I've discovered that German is actually very close to the English language. So, I downloaded the amazing app called Babbel to learn how to speak and write in German. I can proudly say that I can count from 1 to 10 in German and I already know 56 phrases by heart. I enjoyed the app so much that I immediately got myself a Premium account after a week.
2. Get Certified in Social Marketing
I have been working on social media marketing for many years now but it just makes all the difference when you can call yourself certified! Hootsuite had a 50% discount promo last March on Hootsuite Academy which included the Social Marketing Certification. I attended the classes and took the exam certification and passed!
3. Re-decorate My Bedroom
The bedroom has always been my fortress, but I never took the time to add extra elements into it. Since my time is now at least 80% spent inside the bedroom, I've decided to order a personally relatable tapestry that I bought from Emilia's Home, a local seller. They are very kind to give me a discount code in case any of my friends or family order from their website. The code is MARIANNE and it will automatically give a 10% discount!
4. Painting Terracotta Dreams
Now that I have so much "me time" in my hands, I am finally able to play with art again! I have been obsessing with the color terracotta for a while now and it is so much fun figuring out how to get the perfect color using the limited acrylic paint that I have at home.
4. Helping the fight against Covid-19
One of the things that this pandemic made me realize is how lucky I am to have everything that I need - a job that allows me to work remotely, supportive family and friends, and a healthy mind, body, and spirit. Most of my countrymen are not in the best position right now and I feel like I am in the position to give out a helping hand. Because of this, I've donated through reputable channels like Globe, Grab, and Lazada to support our frontliners. I've also made a few cash donations here and there for my relatives in the province and friends who are struggling through all of this.
From the bottom of my heart, I know, this too shall pass. Until then, I am going to process this whole situation in the most productive way and I will make sure that me and the people around me are safe.
