"You are what you do not what you say" - a truthful statement that challenged me to my core. It opened my mind to the idea that if I do things in line of what I want to be, then I can be whoever I want to be! If I want to be smart, then I must do what smart people do. If I want to be peaceful, then I must do what peaceful people do. It's not too hard to understand, right? So in my pursuit to become a better person, I made these conscious decisions to change my life.
1. Study the greatest success and business books
I want to be the kind of person who understands success and business, so I read a total of 100 books in their distilled form. Thanks to Tom Butler-Bowdon, I was able to read and re-read shortened versions of each and every one of the 50 greatest success books and 50 greatest business books of all time. If the distilled version seems promising, I go out to buy and read the whole book.
2. Travel in Europe
I want to be the kind of person who appreciates humanities, arts, and culture, so I went to the place where I can learn all that - Europe. The experience and knowledge I had from the trip will never EVER be taken from me. I was also influenced by how the Europeans deal with life in general, like a real boss.
3. Manage my finances
I want to be the kind of person who is financially worry-free, so I started to manage my finances. I earn enough for a decent living, but I am not yet in a position where money can be thrown out the window. This decision is probably the hardest because it requires a humble and realistic approach to achieve my long-term financial goals.
4. Take good care of my body
I want to be the kind of person who is capable of many things, so I started taking care of my body with proper diet, mindfulness, and exercise. Our bodies, just like any form of matter and energy, have their own limits. The goal is not to extend life, but to make the most out of it - and the only way to do that is to be as healthy as I can.
5. Ora et Labora (Work and Pray)
I want to be the kind of person who is loving, joyful, patient, courageous, humble, and faithful, so I started to pray harder and work smarter! I am done living with pride and hiding behind the shame of my past mistakes. I just want to be open and curious about what the universe is planning for me while working towards my goals.
It is liberating to know that I am being taken care of by the One in charge of everything around us. It just takes a little faith to believe that everything will turn out great!
I am sure I have done a whole lot more to change my life, but I just feel like the above mentioned are the ones who drastically changed my personality. I wish more people could absorb this concept so we can all eventually become the person we have always wanted to be. :)
