2018 Year-end Reading List

The year 2018 is finally closing this week and here I am, super thrilled to prepare for the upcoming new year! One of the things I decided to do to end this year was to read multiple success books that will inspire me to become a better person and accomplish my personal and career goals in 2019.

In this post, I am going to share the books I've been reading since December, including the key learnings from each one of them.

1. You are a Badass by Jen Sincero

“We are all perfect in our own, magnificent, fucked-up ways. Laugh at yourself. Love yourself and others. Rejoice in the cosmic ridiculousness.”

Each chapter, this book has a reminder to love yourself - the most important factor of becoming a badass. It's a self-help book that established the idea that there is absolutely nothing wrong in knowing what is right for you and going after what you want. Have faith in yourself, be kind to yourself, believe that you are unstoppable when you love yourself.

2. The New One Minute Manager by Ken Blanchard and Spencer Johnson

"Help people to reach their full potential. Catch them doing something right.”

This book taught me that it only takes a minute to be as efficient as we can be as a manager, as an employee, or even as an ordinary person. I love how this book illustrates how we can turn a minute into a significant moment with another person, whether as an authority or subordinate, a client or a service person, a friend or a spouse.

3. The Magic of Thinking Big by David Schwartz

“the thinking that guides your intelligence is much more important than how much intelligence you have"

My top favorite book for 2018! In this book, I learned and understood practical ways of having the right state of mind and positive attitude to become successful in life. There is a very helpful chapter in this book about fear, fear being a real thing, and fear being diminished through action. This book is straightforward and guides the reader throughout the process of understanding how the mind works. I will personally recommend this to all my loved ones in 2019!

4. Outliers and Blink by Malcolm Gladwell

“Success is not a random act. It arises out of a predictable and powerful set of circumstances and opportunities.” - Outliers

“There can be as much value in the blink of an eye as in months of rational analysis.” - Blink

In the book Blink, I understood the science and reason behind gut feeling, intuition, and just knowing. I have always trusted my snap decisions about things because most of the time, I get into trouble when I ignore them. This book made me realize where that feeling is coming from; it is not a simple paranoia, but a knowledge made possible only after a long and rigorous of education and experience.

In Outliers, I learned the importance of grabbing golden opportunities whenever I can. Outliers, are not people who have extraordinary abilities or talent, it is more about people who had extraordinary mixture of opportunities, right timing, culture, 10,000 hours of practice, and a whole lot more.

3. The Power of your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy

“If you think good, good will follow, if you think evil, evil will follow. This is the way your mind works.”

I've read this book several times already but the wisdom seem to be always fresh and new every time. This book changed my life; I was able to accomplish many personal victories because I was able to tap into the "power" of my subconscious mind. I learned to choose my thoughts and be more mindful of my self-talks because I wanted my subconscious to be filled only with positivity, love, and beauty.

One common denominator of these year-end books is to be more aware of your thoughts and actions to accomplish a goal. It was told in many different ways and in many different examples, but the main point is that each of us can create, maintain, and share all the good things in life if we use our mind to decide and act accordingly towards the fulfillment of each goal. :)
