Importance of Personal Branding
In early 2017, I enrolled myself in a Personal Branding course at www.coursera.com created by University of Virginia. This course taught me what personal branding is, why personal branding is important, and how to create and maintain your personal brand.
All the things I learned from this course basically kickstarted my career as a digital marketing specialist and I am excited to share with you the importance of Personal Branding.
1. Building Reputation
Part of personal branding is managing and influencing your presence, this means putting your best face forward and in line with how you want to be perceived by others. Information today also spreads faster than it ever has before, so keeping a pleasant character online is important as well. Building a reputation is essential for your personal and career growth.
2. Finding Your Purpose
An important aspect of personal branding is creating a mission statement for your brand. My mission statement is, "to radiate positivity and teach others the value of moderation by living a creative and well-balanced life." Without even realizing it, I was able to find my purpose in life because everything that I say and do is related to an established and written mission statement.
3. Career Growth
Personal branding will enable your target community and clients to connect with you easily because you are able to introduce yourself through your personal brand. For myself, I made sure that my LinkedIn profile is updated, my personal social media accounts are in private, and that I've deleted my crazy home videos in the past. I also created my own website to showcase my skills and share my story in my own words through blogging.
In summary, personal branding is enabling yourself to become who you want to be. It is a great way to create the best version of yourself in your own terms and controlling how you want to be perceived by others. Personal branding is being authentic yet strategic in selling yourself to your dream job. :)
