5 Comfort Food That Eased My Anxiety

Comfort food is real. As real as the most miserable days of my life. It saved me from heartbreaks and frustrations. It saved the people around me from the wrath of my unstable hormones. As per Wikipedia, the term comfort food has been traced back at least to 1966, when the Palm Beach Post used it in a story: "Adults, when under severe emotional stress, turn to what could be called ‘comfort food’—food associated with the security of childhood, like mother’s poached egg or famous chicken soup." They are believed to be a great coping mechanism for rapidly soothing negative feelings."

In this post I will share 5 of my comfort foods - from stress level 1 to catastrophe!

1. Ice Cream

The top pick! It got so out of hand that I got into an ice cream business. I love the Cotton Candy Ice Cream of Baskin Robbins. It brings back the happy childhood memories of buying cotton candy after the Night Sunday Mass.

Stress Level: Work Stress, Heartache, or PMS

2. French Fries

Potato is my favorite vegetable. Not the healthiest vegetable, but tastes great in all dishes. I like fries whether it is wedged or criss-crossed, but french cut is probably the easiest one to buy. My absolute favorite is the Barbecue flavor from Potato Corner.

Stress Level: Work Day

3. Steak

Steak is probably the answer to my worst-case anxiety episode. Eating steak makes me feel powerful and invincible, like the Vikings. I like it in medium-well, I don't like too much blood on my mouth. My absolute favorite is Rib-eye steak from Mark's Prime Rib at The City Club.

Stress Level: Catastrophic

4. Quesadillas

Thesis time, working for my scholarship while working part time in a design company. The only thing that helped me survived the stress is eating Cheese Quesadillas at Army Navy. I even remember a day when I was crying while eating quesadillas.. My current favorite is Moe's Southwest Grill Steak Quesadilla

Stress Level: Emotional and Physical Stress

5. Pizza

The universal comfort food. This is not a bandwagon, the warmth and comfort that a pizza could bring is the greatest. I like thin crust pizza or pizza pie with overloaded mozarella cheese and lots of hot sauce. My current favorite is S&R's Combo Pizza - huge, hot and cheesy!

Stress Level: Work Stress, Heartache, or PMS

Food is the most primitive form of comfort. If you are in need of a comfort food, don't torture yourself - eat it! This list may be unhealthy - but you can defintely eat them only if necessary. Besides, it's no longer a comfort food if you have it every single day right? :)
